Stage 2: (INTERMEDIATE STAGE)
We will do a brief recap / overview of stage 1. But in stage 2, we will incorporate more demonstrations as well as hands on participation. We will discuss, teach then apply different rhythms, which were played by our ancestors. We will then show how they are still relevant and applied throughout the different types of music today. We’ll discuss how to care for each particular instrument, such as, Quinto- Conga- Tumba, etc. These are the three hand drums that make up a full set of congas.
Congas are heavily used in Sulsa and Latin music, which originates from South America. We will also discuss how to tune and change the heads, which are made of natural animal hides. Students / participants will be expected to demonstrate Afro Cuban rhythms, not only on hand drums but on other instruments, such as clave, cow bell, etc. |
